Zanu Pf candidates in the recently held elections came to the rescue of Masvingo provincial nursing school students after donating essential equipment which is meant to improve the quality of students’ upkeep during their three year training program.
The nursing students highlighted their plight to newly appointed minister of state for Provincial Affairs Ezra Chadzamira when he toured the institution on Thursday.
Among the delegates who accompanied the minister included losing candidate for Masvingo urban seat Tagarira Mazarire, Allen Sibanda who also lost ward three to MDC Alliance, and the new city deputy mayor Wellington Mawende among other senior government and Zanu PF officials.
However the three candidates, Mahwende , Sibanda and Mazarire stole the lime light when they made a stampede in making donations to the school after the students had asked government to allocate a cooking stove, fridge and fuel meant for the general welfare of the nursing students.
Through their tutors the students said the school was facing critical fuel shortages when they undertake rural trips which is part of their training and the bureaucratic channels at the institution was delaying progress in rural outreaches.
First to make pledge was Mazarire who promised to supply the institution with a four plate stove which will be used by the students to cook their supplementary food, while Mahwende also pledged a to supply a fridge and not to be outdone was Sibanda who pledged 200 liters of fuel to the school.
The three said some challenges facing the hospital do not always require government but the local community should always stretch a hand is assisting were ever possible.
The Provincial Administrator Fungai Mbetsa who was the master of ceremony during the tour could not hide his joy over the timely intervention of the three politicians and hoped for better fortunes at the hospital as the tour had paid dividends when no one least expected.
